Op de spellenbeurs staan stands van de grote spellenuitgevers, die hun spellen presenteren en de gelegenheid geven om deze te spelen, na een uitleg. Zo leer je zonder het regelboekje uit te spitten en zonder dat je het spel daadwerkelijk moet bezitten, een nieuw spel.

Conference on Simulation of Adaptive Behaviour The objective of this interdisciplinary conference is to bring together researchers in computer science, artificial intelligence, alife, control, robotics, neurosciences, ethology, evolutionary biology, and related fields so as to further our understanding of the behaviors and underlying mechanisms that allow natural and artificial animals to adapt and survive in uncertain environments. The conference will focus on experiments with well-defined models---robot models, computer simulation models, mathematical models---designed to help characterize and compare various organizational principles or architectures underlying adaptive behavior in real animals and in synthetic agents, the animats.

Zomeractiviteit: Zwemmen (afgelast) Let op! Deze activiteit gaat NIET door.
Jawel, daar is 'ie dan: de zomeractiviteit van 2010! Omdat het tropische weer ons eind juli alweer verlaten heeft, maar dat geen excuus is om onder deze in/ont -spannende activiteit uit te komen, gaan we gewoon toch zomers zwemmen! Natuurlijk heeft het weer wel een beetje invloed op ons uitje. Vandaar dat we zullen gaan zwemmen in het verwarmde maar openluchtzwembad de Krommerijn. We verzamelen daar voor de ingang om 12:00 uur. Neem zelf 4,05 euro mee voor entree en de nodige versnaperingen. Voor de liefhebber bestaat er de mogelijkheid na het zwemmen mee te gaan naar Theehuis Rijnhauwen (neem je fiets mee!) voor een heerlijk versterkende pannekoek.

International School on Rewriting Term rewriting is a powerful model of computation underlying much of declarative programming and which is heavily used in symbolic computation in logic and computer science. Applications can be found in theorem proving and protocol verification, but also in fields as diverse as mathematics, philosophy and biology.
Following the editions in Nancy (twice, France), Obergurgl (Austria) and Brasília (Brazil), the 5th International School on Rewriting takes place in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The school is aimed at master and PhD students, researchers and practitioners interested in the study of rewriting concepts and their applications. To accommodate the different backgrounds, we offer two tracks: Basic. A full-fledged introductory course at master/PhD level accompanied with exercise sessions for students without previous exposure to term rewriting. Advanced. Eindejaarsbarbecue Het einde van het jaar is weer in zicht, en dat moet natuurlijk gevierd worden. Dat doen we met de traditionele eindejaarsbarbecue, die dit jaar slechts €5,- per persoon, en voor eerstejaars slechts €2,- kost! Hierbij zijn niet alleen het vlees (of vegetarische hapjes), de salades e.d. inbegrepen, maar ook je drankjes - mogelijk gemaakt dankzij een bijdrage van ICT-dienstverlener OGD.
Kom dus op vrijdag 2 juli vanaf naar het veldje bij de Cambridgelaan om samen met je mede- 'ers een mooi einde aan het jaar te breien. Van tevoren inschrijven is niet verplicht (maar wel fijn), ter plekke betalen wel.Overigens zal het de voetballiefhebbers niet ontgaan zijn dat Nederland vrijdag de kwartfinale tegen Brazilië speelt. Goed nieuws: hoewel niet officieel door Incognito geregeld, zal er op Ho wel een groot scherm met de wedstrijd aanwezig zijn, waarna je makkelijk door kan naar de barbecue.

Lola Hesp will show what a Selfish Gene lamp looks like, she will explain the system that lies behind this appearance and she will show how new generations of lamps can be formed. Abstract Ella Keijzer: Machemes consist of technological information and are supposed to be the new replicators that follow the rules of Darwinian evolution. In this research I show that by creating a simple piece of software set loose it in the quantity of information and technology, evolution will arise spontaneously. During my presentation we will do a Twitter-experiment and try to let it evolve. Perspective taking and 'Knowledge attribution'? Starting with studies on social learning in primates, I have soon shifted my attention to the birds of the family corvidae, notably ravens Corvus corax, that are renown for their large brains. In the course of my PhD, I explored the foraging behaviour of wild ravens in the Austrian Alps, confirming the recruitment system through food calls described by Heinrich and emphasizing the cognitively interesting pattern of flexibly using others as a source of knowledge and as means to gain access to food. Specifically, competition over food caches provokes sophisticated manoeuvres that qualify as tactical deception, both on side of the food storers (that protect their caches from being pilfered) and on side of potential pilferers (that outwit others for gaining access to caches). In the following years, I have been working with captive ravens at the University of Vermont (Erwin Schrödinger fellow) and at the University of Vienna (Erwin Schrödinger follow-up program fellow) to investigate the cognitive mechanism underlying these manoeuvres. Through systematic experimental manipulation of the view of birds at caching, I have tested for the possibility of understanding mental states, i.e. taking the other’s perspective at caching and attributing knowledge to competitors that have and have not seen the caches being made. In addition, I have addressed the ravens’ responsiveness to others’ visual behaviour outside the caching context, expanding on the paradigms of gaze following and joint visual attention. Results show that ravens are indeed capable of judging others’ visual perception, and thus show a level of understanding roughly comparable to that of 2-years-old children.
My current research focuses on avian social knowledge and its application in dynamic societies (i.e. using others as social tools for cooperation, competition and learning). Utilizing ravens as main model system, I am involved in the START program of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the international projects COCOR (ESF-EUROCORES framework TECT) and INCORE (FP6-NEST).

NASSLLI The North American Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information (NASSLLI) is a summer school with classes in the interface between computer science, linguistics, and logic.
After previous editions at Stanford University, Indiana University, and UCLA, NASSLLI will return to Bloomington, Indiana, June 20–26, 2010. The summer school, loosely modeled on the long-running ESSLLI series in Europe, will consist of a number of courses and workshops, selected on the basis of the proposals. Courses and workshops meet for 90 or 120 minutes on each of five days, June 21–25, and there will be tutorials on June 20 and a day-long workshop on June 26. The instructors are prominent researchers who volunteer their time and energy to present basic work in their disciplines. Many are coming from Europe just to teach at NASSLLI.

Uiteraard zijn daarbij ook mensen die niet hebben deelgenomen aan het moordspel welkom! De locatie is veranderd: het is niet meer in het wilhelminapark, maar in cafe Jan Primus. Dit prachtige cafe is dichtbij het park.

In haar bachelorscriptie met de titel "Het gebruik van taal in een theorie over bewustzijn", legt ze uit waarom de pragmatiek, in het bijzonder de theorie van Paul Grice over hoe wij taal gebruiken, problemen met zich mee brengt voor een theorie over bewustzijn.

Hij heeft een pragmatische en radicaal andere kijk op het integreren en uitwisselen van verschillende informatiebronnen zonder een database. Thomas zal vertellen hoe Semantic Web technologie nieuwe mogelijkheden schept en web developers productiever maakt. Data portability Als we bij het maken van onze applicaties gebruik maken van open standaarden zijn gebruikers vrij om te kiezen wat ze met hun gegevens doen en waar ze hun gegevens bewaren, over de applicatie grenzen heen. De tweede spreker van vanavond is Andreas Creten, oprichter van madewithlove. Andreas zal spreken over hoe data portability ons leven gemakkelijker kan maken. Over SETUP SETUP is hét centrum voor technologie en nieuwe media in Utrecht. Bij SETUP worden bijeenkomsten, workshops en andere events zoals tentoonstellingen en feesten georganiseerd. Tijdens deze activiteiten worden nieuwe ideeën, mogelijkheden en kansen op het gebied van technologie en nieuwe media onderzocht. SETUP is gevestigd op de Neude in Utrecht, boven het gebouw van ABN-AMRO (dat op dit moment wordt verbouwd). De bijeenkomst is gratis toegankelijk voor zowel leden als niet-leden. TABU dag 2010 The annual TABU Dag is an international linguistics conference organized at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Researchers, students and other interested people are warmly invited to participate! Over the last 30 years TABU Dag has been an open conference with a varied programme and guest speakers from different fields.
The conference offers excellent opportunities to meet other linguists and discuss current research in several areas of linguistics. Postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers in particular are encouraged to present their work. This year TABU Dag will take place on 3 and 4 June 2010.
